Footloose Makes Me Cry

Submitted by on August 17, 2009 – 4:29 pm6 Comments

and I am not ashamed to admit it.

Footloose

Yes, it does. Why you ask? Because I am a huge sap and I love a happy ending especially when it has dancing. I always tear up at the end of this movie. I also get right up and dance along with them. However today that is not the only reason it made me cry. One line in the movie where the mom says “It’s just the two of us again” made me fast forward in my head 8 years and then 12 years and then 14 years and I thought about when my kids will leave for college.

Then I realized, in just a matter of time these little rascals:
Spongebob

will grow up and move out of my house. Then who will I take care of, I realized how much I love taking care of them and the thought that one day they will be able to take care of themselves is almost painful. I thought about how much my heart will break when they leave for college while at the same time being the proudest mom out there. It’s entirely possible to cry tears of sorrow and joy at the exact same time!

That’s what life is, you can be crying tears of joy one minute and then think of something or someone and your heart just hurt and you cry tears of sorrow right along with the joy. Funny thing our emotions are.

Even funnier is that Footloose set off this amazingly deep post. Take time to laugh today and cry tears of joy and if you need to, go ahead and cry over the hurts too that way you get them out all in one fail swoop.

Now for an uplifting moment…let’s dance

*By the way this song is totally dedicated to one of my mom forum friends Jen, she is a bigger fan of Footloose than me…if that’s possible :)

I, too, am a Footloose fan, but it doesn't make me cry. *ahem* Are you sure you're not pregnant? LOL!

Thanks for the flashback – although I have to say also that I never cried during Footloose! Good times!

Aw! Footloose made me cry too…back in the 80s! LOL! I had the soundtrack and everything…on WAX! I even know the "Let's Hear It For The Boy" dance that Kevin Bacon taught Chris Penn. I am trying really hard not to go too far into the future thinking about when I will have an empty nest. Oh no…shoot! You made me go there! (sniff sniff)

Sure I cried. It is a great love story! I just posted about happy movies last week…perhaps they would be a good balance.
