Whitney Houston, Another Music Icon Gone Too Soon
February 11, 2012 – 8:31 pm | 6 Comments

Probably one of the most iconic performers in my young years along with Michael Jackson was Whitney Houston. Today the music world has suffered another loss. I got the AP update on my phone and my heart just dropped at the news of Whitney Houston’s death, and yes yours truly here teared up.

Can You Taste The Fiber? Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks Review

Submitted by on November 22, 2009 – 10:58 am10 Comments

Picture 6Thanks to Mom Central I recently had the chance to review the New Apple Jacks and Froot Loops.  What’s new about them?  The new Froot Loops and Apple Jacks now have fiber.  I was also sent one box of Froot Loops without fiber to compare.  Now I will tell you my findings on taste in just a bit.  But first let me explain why we love cereal in our house and on 4 out of 5 of the weekdays we actually prefer cereal to a hot meal.

I have 2 out of 3 children in school and Monday-Friday nights I work evenings until 12:30 a.m.  I get home and sometimes have to wind down so I am not going to sleep until between 1 and 2 a.m. usually. Now to get the kids up and off to school I have to wake them at 6:45 so that means on a good night I have gotten right at 6 hours of sleep.  Once awake I have to dress the younger one, make lunches and still have time to get them breakfast.  For us on those days a hot super healthy breakfast is not usually an option so cereal is what we love.

As we all know a lot of kids love the sugary sweet foods and if they think something they are eating is good for them at all they seem to think it will taste bad (or maybe this is just mine LOL).  I call it the “it’s good for me so it must taste bad” sensor embedded into their brain LOL.  In comes Froot Loops and Apple Jacks with fiber.  This food does not trigger that sensor, when I had them compare the fiber to no fiber they could not tell a difference and I myself could not either.

As a mom nutrition is an important part of my life and my kids life.  I want to do the best I can to ensure they get the nutrition they need and sometimes that’s not always easy.  With Kellogg’s Nutrition adding fiber into their cereals and keeping them tasting good is perfect for those who like me, have kids that are sometimes hard to please in the food area. It may not be the healthiest meal but at least there is now something there that wasn’t, yes?   The amount of fiber added per 1/2 cup serving is 3 grams.

I’ll have to try them. I eat cereal on my way to work every morning and also have the “it’s good for me, it must taste bad” chip installed!

I am sorry you feel that way. At least for you there are hundreds of other cereals out there yes!

I always did like Apple Jacks, so I’ll be trying this when it hits the store I shop.

I never got to try Apple Jacks. Isn’t that sad? Somehow just never entered my life. Have to try them!

I’m sorry. But the taste of Apple Jacks and Froot Loops with fiber is totally horrible. It tastes stale and if this is the only option for froot loops/ apple jacks, I will definitely not be buying them anymore…sorry, but I totally disagree! Maybe kelloggs should give the consumer the option of having both.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with them but thank you for sharing your opinion. Our family was lucky in the fact they tasted great and were just like the no fiber ones. Maybe you got a bad box, I would let the company know your experience and opinion :)

I have eaten Apple Jacks for nearly thirty rears and they have ruined the taste. Anyone who says they don’t taste the difference is working of the company. I too will never eat them again. They taste like cardboard. If I wanted to taste cardboard I’d eat the box!

        Toni says:

I can assure you I don’t work for the company so you are mistaken there. I have eaten them over the last 27 years and I don’t think they taste like cardboard of course as I entered into adulthood I eat it less often so maybe that’s why I think they still taste great. However I did do a side by side comparison and there was not a taste difference to me. I am sorry you don’t like them, maybe you can find another brand of cereal to eat.

I was wondering if there was a difference in taste. I’ve been too chicken to try and potentially waste the cost of a box of cereal. (maybe I’m a little cheap – maybe I was just waiting on someone else to do it) Thanks for taking the time to do this!
