Swinxs: Interactive Playtime Review & Giveaway (12/15)

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!
As a parent I am always looking for ways to entertain my kids however as every parent knows we can’t always sit and play games with our children. There is housework to be done, clothes to wash, bills to pay and during that time it’s not very easy to interact and play with your kids so what do you do?
Sitting them in front of a television is sometimes the only options people have in the cold months and it’s not the greatest option to do all the time for me personally.
I would much rather have something that keeps them active and thinking and is an interactive source during the few times I may not be able to. Enter Swinxs, a screen free game console that is interactive with your children inside or outside. I was ecstatic to have been approached to review a Swinxs as the cold is starting to set in. It’s going to be more inside time which usually equals boredom when I can’t interact with my daughter the whole day when her brothers are at school. I have to take breaks to make lunch, make calls, pay bills and I am not a big fan of plopping my children in front of a t.v.
My daughter is pretty good at entertaining herself but there are the occasions she wants interaction (which somehow always seems to be right when I am sitting down to do something LOL). Swinxs has provided the answer to this for us engaging her in creative, physical and educational play when I have a few things to finish up before I can start playing beauty salon and animal train (whole other blog posts on those games later).
The Swinxs arrived and we were all very impressed with the very modern look of the console, makes me think of Star Trek. Along with the console are 4 armbands, a usb/charger cable and the plug to charge the console. The Swinxs will need to charge 12 hours to get the full charge but you can play while it’s charging. After the charge is complete you can take Swinxs anywhere and have several hours of fun, interactive play. I have even enjoyed playing the games myself, I am after all a big kid at heart.
Watch the short video below to get a little glimpse on how the Swinxs works:
Swinxs comes ready to play with 10 pre-loaded games:
- Swinxs Dash: Set a race course, when your color band is called, run the course and return back and Swinxs will let you know your time.
- Swinxsball: Form a circle around the Swinx with one player in the center who has to dodge the ball. Great game to teach teamwork and build agility.
- Tag: Swinxs decides who is “it” and you’re off to try to tag the others. But be careful, Swinxs can change the rules so keep an ear open!
- Far & Away: Listen carefully to a musical sample and try to see how far you can run, drop your marker and make it back before the music ends. Blip your XS tag before the music ends.
- Circle Swinxs, Hide & Seek, Jukebox, Flyswatter, Quiz, and Countdown are the other games that come on your Swinxs.
A little more about the Swinxs (taken from supplied press packet):
- You can connect your Swinxs by USB to your Windows XP or Windows Vista operated computer and download other available games.
- Once connected you can create a homepage, find out which games you can play with Swinxs, see the scores of the games you have played, download new games or delete old ones.
- You can purchase additional Swinxs accessories on Amazon.com such as playing cards and additional wristbands
The one thing I would suggest to Swinxs is to work on making sure it is compatible with more current versions of Windows as well as compatible with Mac’s. All three of my children have thouroughly enjoyed playing and interacting with the Swinxs, and we still haven’t even discovered all the games yet. They so far are having the best time with Swinxs dash, setting up a race course in the house and seeing how fast they can get back. Giggles and fun during the cold when stuck inside now, no more boredom and sitting in front of the television.
We are definitely huge fans of the Swinxs in our house and in my daughters own words ” Mommy I like this pretty game it’s fun for us to play”.
