February 11, 2012 – 8:31 pm | 2 Comments

Probably one of the most iconic performers in my young years along with Michael Jackson was Whitney Houston. Today the music world has suffered another loss. I got the AP update on my phone and my heart just dropped at the news of Whitney Houston’s death, and yes yours truly here teared up.

American Girl Brings Shine On Now: A Great Way To Make A Difference

Submitted by on June 28, 2010 – 6:20 am22 Comments

I am so excited to be a part of this amazing project alongside American Girl. I am one of their parent partners (see the little badge in my sidebar) and couldn’t be more excited about a project.  What is the project you ask?  Glad you asked, let me tell you all about it.

Shine On Now is an initiative calling on girls from across the country to donate $1 Million dollars in clothes, books, dolls and money to four charities.  The charities being donated to through this initiative are:

Starting today girls can head over to Shine On Now and become official American Girl ambassadors to help with this amazing project.  As an ambassador they will receive a downloadable tool kit with ideas to help them with fundraising for one of the four (or all) charities listed above or any other opportunities they have to give back.  It is a great way to get them excited about giving back.

Then starting July 13 until July 31 they can go to Shine On Now and donate up to 100 free stars a day.  If a total of 1 million stars are collected, American Girl, will donate 1 Million dollars of books, clothes, dolls and money to the four charities mentioned above.  If we can get 10,000 girls signed up and donating their 100 stars the million would be met.  Now I hope to get much more than that since we have 18 days, let’s pass that million mark and show them how excited our children are about helping others.

I don’t know about you but I am excited at the thought of teaching my daughter that giving back is fun and a great way to help others who may not have the things she does. Coming soon I will talk about Innerstar University a fun way to help your child shine in her life by interacting with her My American Girl doll.

Giveaway coming soon here for a chance to win a My American Girl doll, so keep watch and leave a comment here if you like! *It will be an extra entry when I post the giveaway*

For now head over, starting today to Shine On Now and sign your daughter up to become an American Girl Ambassador and be a part of this wonderful project.  Giving back is important and if we can get them involved while they are young it will embed in them the importance of it later in life.  I don’t know about you but that seems like a win/win to me.

You can follow Shine On Now twitter at @AGShineOnNow and like them on their Shine On Now facebook page.  While you are there don’t forget to check out the Parent Partner Page to see the other parent partners spreading the word about this amazing program.

Just in case you can’t get to it here is a list of the other parent partners who either have now or (like me) will have an American Girl giveaway for you to enter soon.  Fellow Parent Partners Include:

“American Girl will send me free product samples as a part of my partnership in the Shine On Now™ program. The opinions and content posted here are my own in combination with pieces taken from a press release. No monetary compensation was given for this post.  For more information please see my disclosure page.”
