MGM released one of my favorite older movies to Blu-ray, “A Chorus Line“, on January 14. There are many reasons why this makes me smile, the main one being I have a passion for performance. Having been a dancer for almost half of my life, I love anything that has to do with dance, music, or anything of the like.
A Chorus Line
A group of dancers congregate on the stage of a Broadway theater to audition for a new musical. After the initial eliminations, 16 hopefuls remain. As the film unfolds, the backstory of each of the dancers is revealed. Some are funny, some ironic, some heartbreaking. No matter what their background, however, they all have one thing in common – a passion for dance. Run time is 120 minutes.
I still remember doing a dance to the song “One” from the movie, as well as singing it in Musical Theater or Drama (maybe both) in high school. A Chorus Line, follows a group of dancers going through the, not so easy, audition process, led by Zach (Michael Douglas). You’ll learn their backgrounds and how they came to be in the performing world. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry at their stories, but you won’t see any lack of passion. You’ll see how much they really want to be there.
A Chorus Line will get you singing and possibly wanting to audition for your own role on a Broadway show. If you are a fan of musicals then this is one movie you won’t want to miss. Of course, if you are like me, you will want to watch it quite often. This would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for the dancer and/or musical lover in your life. You can pick up a copy of it on Amazon here.
Have you ever watched A Chorus Line??
