Thank you to Experience Kissimmee for making this experience with Boggy Creek Airboat Rides possible. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One of the more incredible things to do in Central Florida is to take a ride on an airboat. About a 45 minute drive outside of Kissimmee, FL lies Boggy Creek Airboat Rides. This was just the coolest little adventure. To soar across the water at high speeds and then slowly float into spots that you could never get to by foot was just amazing. You could tell that our driver grew up in that area and that he knew his swamp well.
We were able to head out on a bright clear day. The wildlife was out and about with birds all over.
I love to see birds as they start to take off. So much power and grace. It just seems impossible that they should be able to do it and, yet, they make it look so easy.
As you float near the edges of the swamp, keep an eye out for the logs with eyes! These little guys are just the babies, only a few months old. Their mommas are the ones to watch out for. They float just below the surface, their eyes peeled just above. The trained eye of our driver could see them easily; the rest of us had to strain a little.
Beyond the wildlife, this ride really provided some beautiful views of the swampland. This tree was just sitting there in the middle of the swamp. It stuck out like a sore thumb, but I found the simplicity of a tree right there to be incredible beautiful.
After getting off of the airboats, we had a chance to sit and rest for a bit before having lunch. They brought out this little fella and invited everyone to hold him. What a fun opportunity for the kids! How many people can say that they’ve held an alligator?
One thing that the South is famous for is the beautiful moss covered trees. I grew up in Louisiana and these views really took me back there. I love the dappled sunlight beaming through the moss.
After a morning of airboat rides and alligator holding, one might work up an appetite. Thankfully, Fat Boys Bar-B-Q was there to the rescue. The barbecued chicken with fixins was just straightforward, good ole’ barbecue. As a good southern boy, what stood out most was the sweet iced tea! It’s hard to get sweet tea in Florida and I was happy to have a good taste of home.
All in all, we had just an amazing time out at Boggy Creek Airboat Rides. We saw some great wildlife and some lovely views. We got some great pictures and even had the chance to hold an alligator. This is one of those experiences that you just have to take advantage of when you get the opportunity. I hope that each of you get the chance someday.
