The phrase “Do as I say, not as I do” is one phrase I, as a parent, can not stand. How am I going to teach my kids one thing, if they see me doing another? I will never utter that phrase because I want to be the example for my children to follow. One of the ways I am trying to be an example to them is by living a healthier lifestyle. Sure, I could say you need to get in sports, get active, eat good for you foods, but if I am never active and always eating snack cakes or fast food what would that mean for my kids? Probably, that they would grow up and eat/live just like that. Because I want them to follow in my footsteps, I am trying to set healthy examples of ways to start the day and healthy snacking through the day.
One of the ways I am doing that is by starting my day every day with a good for you (that tastes amazing) smoothie…
At least 5 (usually all 7) of my days start with a Blueberry Banana Almond Milk Smoothie. It’s such a refreshing way for me to start my day and my kids see me enjoying a tasty treat. Not to mention, it’s super easy to make so on those rushed mornings it can go with us in the car and be consumed on the way to school.
Blueberry Banana Almond Milk Smoothie
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 whole (small) banana
- 1 cup vanilla almond milk
- 2 tbsp Flax Seed
- 2 scoops favorite powders (protein, vitamin, wheat, whatever powder you like). I love using a chocolate or vanilla flavored one
- 12 cubes ice
- Add blueberries, banana, almond milk, flax seed, and powder to blender and blend until mixed. Be careful not to overblend or it will be more liquid thickness than smoothie.
- Add ice cubes and blend until crushed.
- Pour in cup….ENJOY
Seriously, the Blueberry Banana Almond Milk Smoothie is of the simplest and good for you ways I love to start my day. However, breakfast isn’t the only meal, and if your kids are like my kids, in between meals, they like to snack. With granola, they can grab a handful on the go, use it as cereal alone, or use it with their favorite yogurt. Fruit strips are a tasty way to enjoy fruit treat in a healthier way. My husband likes the Simply Balanced Organic Blue Corn with Flax Seed Tortilla Chips. They are great alone or with your favorite homemade salsa.
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be tasteless, as we have found out using these products. Now, as a family, we can eat healthy together and enjoy what we are eating using the Simply Balanced brand found at Target. That’s enough for me to feel good about serving it to my family.
