There you have it, Part 2 of 2009 here at A Daily Dose.  There have been lots of ups and lots of downs but through it all I survived and have grown and become better.  I am thankful (for even the hard times yes) for this past year and look forward to moving into year 3 with all you wonderful bloggers and readers.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have been there with me through all this past year, through your support and friendships I have been able to make it through some trying times and some wonderful times.  I hope this year I get to meet many more of you and make lots more friends.

Hey everyone, it’s yours truly Teacher Toni, with this installment of your Blogtiquette Lesson. All in good fun of course, I get bored easily so I thought it’s time for a life blog lesson. Growing up is hard to do but sometimes when that man or woman reaches late 20′s early 30′s I feel like some revert back to childhood and brattiness so let’s not. Let’s all grow up and BE NICE quit making fun of people and just be civil.

I think it’s important to support everyone in the blog world or at least be civil and respectful.  Lately  I have made new friends, reconnected with older ones, and kept the ones that are current strong.  I love that there are so many people out there willing to jump in and help you answering questions, giving advice and promoting posts. That’s what blogging and community is about not tearing each other down and making fun of people or having a whole blog dedicated to bashing another blogger (so tacky IMHO). Grow up and ignore someone if you don’t like them..of course it’s only your time your wasting and the moments you spend making fun of someone instead of making a difference are moments you can’t get back, and that my friends only hurts you.

I know my blogtiquette lessons are tongue in cheek and that’s they way they are meant to be. Making a serious point while being light hearted about it.  And today’s point is:  Thou Shalt Grow Up (and support each other)

So now that we have gotten that we all need to be grown ups out of the way,  I would love to hear about someone or more than one person who has been a great support to you in the blog world? If I were a new blogger looking to someone to inspire me who would you suggest, let’s lift up instead of make fun or bash. So leave your answer in the comments, I want to know who inspires you!

PLAGIARISM!!

I have noticed this past week that plagiarism is a lot more rampant than I realized.  For those that missed English class a little definition of plagiarism (as defined by Dictionary.com):    the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work.

What I wonder is what in the world sparks in someone’s publishing brain that makes them think

“Hmm, I like that I think I will use that whole post and/or paragraph and act like I wrote it”.

Obviously it’s not brilliance, so the next thing that comes to mind is stupidity.  As a blogger today, surely we are all aware the time it takes to come up with a post, how much heart is put into posts such as Velveteen Minds Katrina’s 4th Anniversary post.  In fact it was her tweets as well as another’s that sparked this Blogtiquette lesson, upon finding out that a good bit of her post was taken verbatim and used as the bloggers own words.

NOT COOL!

I can understand that it is entirely possible to have a sentence the same as someone else, and with reviews maybe even a couple.  Anything more than that and you are sure to be found out.  Let me go ahead and let you, smart content thieves, know in as nice a way as I can think to put it…

THINK FOR YOURSELF AND QUIT STEALING OUR STUFF!

Blogging is all about originality so when you use someone else’s words, you are not original (seems self explanatory but some seem to need clarification obviously).  Stealing someone else’s words is not doing you any favors, in fact it will deem you the leper in the blogosphere, the one no one wants to be around.  Blogging is hard work, no one ever said it was going to be easy, but if you can hack it on your own and think for yourself you really need to sit back and think if this is really for you.  The more you “steal” the more you will be less trusted.

I totally get that sometimes you come across a blog that says something absolutely amazing and you wish you would have said that yourself.  It’s fine to envy someone’s post because it is brilliant, it’s not okay to make the words you did not write your own.  If someone truly says something you think you can live without on your blog, email them and ask  if you can use their words and LINK BACK TO THEM.  Let them have the credit for coming up with the brilliant writing.  Chances are if you do that they will say okay.  It would be an honor to most bloggers to know that you loved a piece of their work so much you wanted to include it on your blog, just give the credit where it is due.

In blogging today it takes an obviously not so bright person to think they will get away with something like this.  With all the copyright sights available to add on your blog or just run your url to check for dupes, you will be caught and when you are the fall out won’t be  fun.

Taking credit for something you didn’t come up with yourself is worse than being caught with the newest fashion faux pas…jean leggings.  While from a distance it may seem like it’s a perfect fit and the style is original up close it can be seen that it’s not the real thing.  It’s just another company trying to outdo a classic because in reality they can’t top the real thing so instead they take the idea and try to put a twist on it. It doesn’t work and rarely ever does.

Blogtiquette Lesson 4: Thou Shalt Think For Yourself!

Today I am not talking about things you do on your blog or on your twitter but I am talking about:

There are two types of anonymous comment people.

A) The ones who are pretty much doing it to either enter a contest or who have something worthwhile to say and they just don’t have a website but they are a reader of your blog. These people 99% of the time leave their name in with their comment.

OR

B) Joe Jerk or Sally Stupid who are basically big fat (okay so maybe they are thin but you get my point) sissies. They try to make themselves feel like Mr. or Miss Big in the britches bad a$$ when really they are nothing. Real bad a$$es take credit for their jerkiness. These types always seem to “forget” leaving their name. *note the color doesn’t it remind you of a certain grossness your body expells, it’s what anon comment peeps are…pieces of, well you get my drift.

Basically anonymous comment peeps who aren’t entering your contests or leaving their name in the comment (real, not the SeemoreButts names) are the scum of the blog world. They have to hide behind a computer screen because they don’t have big enough

to leave the comment with their real names.

Well let me rephrase that, they don’t leave their real name if they are leaving a rude, jerk off comment but the ones that are being nice and just don’t have web pages usually leave their name even if they have to do it as anonymous. Wonder why that is. Oh yeah because the ones who leave hateful and nasty comments are COWARDS.

Sissified, no life, trash talking behind a computer screen because I feel man (or woman) enough when I do it that way, cowards.

Yep rude nasty comments left by anonymous people are not even in the least bit effective, meaning you won’t get me (or any other blogger) upset but I do like to banter back and forth so sometimes I approve them just to have fun. Here are my thoughts (not that you asked for them but this is my blogtiquette lesson so you are getting them).

Hate, Trash talking and rude comments don’t bother me ever, they just give me page views and make me laugh so keep them coming. However just think the whole time you are leaving a comment without your name remember what myself and EVERY blogger is thinking:

Yep even those you worship think anonymous emails and comments are cowardly. Take credit for your stuff. You will gain more respect that way. Another point is really why do people feel the need to leave hateful comments to begin with….oh wait that’s right it’s because you are jealous of the bloggers page you are anonymously commenting on.

So, obviously to all you out there in blog land, I am not jealous of a one of you because I have never and will never leave a hate comment (anonymously or non anonymously). So there you go. I respect EVERY single blogger out there (aside from the cowards we are teaching about here) and have never ever left a comment that was rude or hateful and I never will. It’s not worth my time.

So to all you sissy freaks, get a life and if you can’t at least take credit for your rude “trying to be big stuff” smack talk. Until then I guess Here at A Daily Dose
