Thank you to Experience Kissimmee for making this welcome dinner at Charley’s Steakhouse possible. All opinions are my own.
Looking back, my recent trip to Kissimmee, FL was just a blur. I’m so glad that I took so many pictures that I can look back on to remember everything that we did.
That first day was just crazy. Finish packing up, head out to the airport to say goodbye to the wife and kids and check in, find out that I’m going to miss the connecting flight, and finally touch down to find that, thankfully, my luggage had come in on the first flight. When I finally got to my room at Westgate Vacation Villas, I had just under an hour to get settled, grab a quick shower and shave, iron the wrinkles out of my shirt and pants, and be ready to leave for our welcome dinner at Charley’s Steakhouse in Kissimmee. Needless to say, I was feeling a little rushed!
When we did get to Charley’s, I could just feel that rush lifted. I could tell right away that the staff was going to take care of everything. I must have been welcomed in four or five times. We walked right in past this incredible grill. This picture is definitely going into my file for future home ideas. I don’t care whether it’s inside or outside, I am having a grill like this one day. I mean, just look at it. How could anything coming off of that taste bad?
As we continued along, we came to the room that was reserved for us only to find this massive moray eel staring right at us. It is an absolutely beautiful creature.
The kids were just in awe of it. Here, one of the contestants holds her kids up to see. Those kiddos were just sweethearts. It is still hard to believe that that little girl is only three days older than my Sophie.
While the sites of the restaurant and the conversation with the contestants, other bloggers, and contest officials were nice and all, let’s be honest, you come to a restaurant for the food. My wife has long told me that I spoil her with my cooking, so any restaurant that I enter is going to be tough to please me. I have to say that Charley’s Steakhouse did a nice job. Overall, I was pretty impressed.
The first thing to come out was our appetizer, a plate of pan-fried calamari with mixed peppers served family style. The calamari was cooked perfectly. The breading was crunchy and the squid not at all chewy. The mix of mild and spicy peppers definitely kept the flavors interesting. The best part? Since it was family style, I was able to mooch from the ladies at the end of the table when I realized that they weren’t going to finish their serving!
We had a choice of entrees, but, to me, Charley’s Steakhouse is, after all, a steakhouse and, with that incredible grill, I just had to give the steak a try. I ordered mine medium rare and, well, I’ll just let the picture do the talking.
Now, any good meal deserves a good finish, right? We were afforded a selection of desserts. That’s my favorite way to have dessert. It’s so hard to make a decision on dessert because the all look so good. I am a key lime pie fanatic, so I headed there right away, but that chocolate cake was so inviting…. I might just have to find an excuse to make one here soon!
Overall, this meal really kicked off the trip with a bang. Good food, good conversations, and no dishes! I think we all went back to the rooms feeling pretty stuffed but supremely satisfied.
