I am so excited to be working with Toni. She asked me to head down to Kissimmee, FL to cover the Grand Prize announcement in the Decade of Kissimmee Memories contest. Since I had never been there before, I jumped at the opportunity!
Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing my experiences down there with the 5 finalist families and 14 other bloggers, but first I’d like to introduce myself to to A Daily Dose of Toni.
My name is Brian Mellott. I’m married with three crazy kids, Grace (6), Sophie (5), and Matthew (3). I am a stay at home dad, I love travelling, adventure racing, and I especially love to cook. I have been cooking for myself and my family for over 20 years now! A couple of years ago, my wife, Beth, started asking me to post pictures and recipes on her blog, Simply Budgeted. As I’ve been challenged to create new dishes and take photographs of the food, my love for both has grown. In January of this year, my passion for food and my newfound love of photography came together as I started my new blog, This Cookin’ Dad.
The thread that tends to run common throughout all of my posts is that I see the world through the eyes of a parent. I know that, while many parents are conscious of every cost, most are more interested in value. We are happy to pay a little more for something if we don’t have to replace it three times. We do not, however, want to feel like we are throwing our money away.
The other thing that I tend to focus on is finding simple beauty. I am a combat veteran and, because of that experience, I’ve really learned how precious life is. Life is meant to be savored. Whether bringing simple ingredients together to form a delicious meal, reveling in the beauty of a simply flower, or capturing the tender moments of children experiencing the world around them, one of my missions to to share that beauty with you.
I hope that you stay tuned over the next couple of weeks. I look forward to sharing the highlights of my trip with each and every one of you.
