I love books that I can enjoy, read and discuss with my kids. Of course as they get older that’s a little more difficult but there is one writer who captivates both my oldest son and I enjoy his writing just as much. We could go discuss and talk about for hours what we read. That author is Rick Riordan.
For us it all started with the Percy Jackson Series. We saw a preview for the movie “Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief” and wanted to see that, then realized it was a book (and series). So we picked up the first book and I loved it. I am very intrigued by anything Greek mythology even if it is in a fiction book. The books were so well written and I literally finished it in a day. I could not put it down.
We subsequently went through the rest of that series, followed by the next series “The Kane Chronicles“. Last year the release of the first of five books in the newest series was released, The Lost Hero from the Heroes of Olympus series. It was great and kind of picked up where the Percy Jackson series left off except one key character was missing….Percy. We have been anxiously awaiting the release of the second book, because as with all good books the ending gave closure without really giving it at all. Meaning you knew there was something else coming but at least ended in a way as to hint to what that may be.
Tomorrow (October 4, 2011) the long awaited release of the next Heroes of Olympus series “The Son of Neptune” is set to come out. We will be picking it up or ordering it for sure. My son is excited, I am excited and I can’t wait to read this and talk about it with him. I love bonding over a good book!
Have you ever read any of the above mentioned series by Rick Riordan? If not I highly suggest you do. If you have will you be picking up The Son of Neptune tomorrow?
*I wrote this because I absolutely love the above mentioned series. I was not asked to write about them but did so because frankly, I think they should be read. Please note links are amazon affiliate links, if you do click and order I do receive a small percentage. Thanks!
