GLOW on Netflix Takes Me Back In Time #StreamTeam (ad)

**I am part of the Netflix Stream Team. All opinions are 100% my own**

I remember watching, as a kid, GLOW otherwise known as “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling”. To this day, I still see Susie Spirit breaking her arm or maybe it was dislocating her elbow when she was going up against The Headhunters. I remember cringing because it was so grotesque looking, but it didn’t stop me from loving GLOW.  Now, thanks to Netflix I get to relive those GLOW days with their new original series, appropriately titled GLOW.

The 10-episode series released on June 23 and when I turned on Netflix on Saturday, June 24 I binge watched the entire series. While this is not meant to be solely wrestling like the original show was, I mean it was essentially the all-women WWE and it was epic, it does hold it’s own special place in my heart because it’s paying homage to the show I loved.

In 1980s LA, a crew of misfits reinvent themselves as the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW). It’s a comedy by the team behind “Orange Is the New Black.” Starring Alison Brie as Ruth Wilder, who is an out-of-work actress in LA in the 80’s (let’s stop for a moment and pay tribute to this awesome era and all its glory). She finds her chance at stardom in the most unexpected way, as a woman wrestler along with other misfits. Marc Maron takes on the role of Sam Sylvia, a director of not the most popular movies, but does his best to lead this group of woman to stardom.

GLOW tackles some tough topics but remains humorous throughout the entire season. This series is great for a parents night in, but make sure no kids come through because it is rated TV-MA. It’s NOT kid-friendly as there are a few sex scenes, a lot of sexual innuendos, drinking, drugs, cursing that would put sailors to shame and some other adult only situations.

I am counting down the days until season 2, at least I hope their will be a season 2. I hope they bring Susie Spirit and Debbie Debutante into the mix. If you are looking for a show that will keep you laughing, but aren’t easily offended, then check out GLOW on Netflix. After you’ve watched come back and let me know what you thought!

I’ve never heard of this show. It looks really interesting, I’ll have to give it a go.
