Last month I announced that I have the privilege of being a Skype Ambassador. I use Skype to IM with friends, voice chat while online but most recently I have enjoyed the benefits of another one of Skype’s features…group video chat. Whether I need to have a conference call with several PR I am working with or just want to connect with other family members video chat is a great way to have a meeting without having to actually be physically in the same place. It seems I am not the only mom out there enjoying the benefits of video calling either, before I continue check out this infographic sharing all about Moms & Technology:
I’d say the moms surveyed know the benefits to technology and Skype. As I was saying, I love the video calling feature on Skype. A friend, that I haven’t seen for awhile, I can call up and chat with face to face. I love that I can call up my grandma, aunt, dad, cousins either one at a time or all together. Being Italian we love the big group gatherings and living in different states it’s not always physically possible. Thanks to Skype’s video group chat we can have a big group of us talking (loudly of course) visiting and it’s just as fun as if we were all being rowdy in the same room. With pasta on hand of course!
You might be thinking well I can call and do a group chat on a phone just as easy, which is true. To that I say, sure a phone is great but it’s so much sweeter a moment when you can see the face of someone you love. I would much rather be in full view of the friends and family who make up my heart. Thanks to Skype that is possible even thousands of miles away.
Not only has Skype come in handy for friends and family but for my career as a blogger and someone in social media. There are times a conference call is in order and while we may not do it face to face every time Skype makes it easy to have a meeting through either voice or video. Not only can I share through voice and/or video but I can also screen share. So if I can’t make it into my office (which would be rare thanks to it being my home) or am away on vacation but have a presentation due, I need not worry. With screen sharing I can have the presentation right on my computer and share away to the ones waiting to see whatever it is I am presenting. In fact my friend, Sara, will one day be getting a StumbleUpon tutorial through the screen share feature.
I am so impressed with the features Skype offers it’s so hard to highlight just a few. If you aren’t on Skype what are you waiting for! Don’t forget to keep up with their facebook page to see what current happenings they have going on. Please note, some of the features mentioned are premium features for which there is a fee. To learn more and sign up head over to Skype and get started. You’ll be video chatting before you know it!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Skype. I received Skype credits to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
