Adventure movie fans, get ready for a new adventure….The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec.
The year is 1912. This is the story of an intrepid young reporter Adèle Blanc-Sec and her quest for the power of life over death. Her journey would take her to distant lands to face many dangers beneath the sands. She will go to any lengths to achieve her aims, including sailing to Egypt to tackle mummies of all shapes and sizes. Meanwhile in Paris, a 136 million-year old pterodactyl egg on display in the natural history museum has mysteriously hatched, and the creature subjects the city to a reign of terror from the skies. But nothing fazes Adele Blanc-Sec, whose adventures include many more extraordinary surprises…
Directed and produced by world renowned filmmaker Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) and adapted from Eisner Award winner Jacques Tardi’s celebrated French classic comic book series, this movie features a stellar cast of Louise Bourgoin (Anne Fontaine’s The Girl From Monaco), Mathieu Amalric (Quantum of Solace, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Gilles Lellouche (Love Me If You Dare), Jean-Paul Rouve (La Vie En Rose), Jacky Nercessian (Le Grand Voyage), and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly).
As I sat down to watch this, I admit I was a bit leery. I wasn’t sure with it being in french with the choice to read subtitles or have dubbed english how much I would enjoy this, or how long it would keep my kids attention. We all love good adventure movies, so I hoped it would draw us in. We decided to go with the dubbed version because I knew my kids would be less than thrilled at reading a movie for 107 minutes. I have to admit to laughing and enjoying it the whole way through.
Adèle is doing what she can to save someone she loves even if that means she might not make it herself. Watching Adèle make it through tough and sometimes scary situations. (okay so most of the situations would be scary if we were facing them). Her character makes me think of a female Indiana Jones, not afraid of anything a normal person would be scared of and facing situations with gusto. The rest of the characters in the movie each bring something unique to the table. Some are a little on the strange side, some quite unique, and others…well I can’t give it all away so you’ll just have to pick up a copy for your enjoyment today.

As quirky as her fashion is I have to admit I kind of like her style, you can see it here (as well as more of stills of the movie):
Whether you are looking for laughs or adventure The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec will not disappoint (or at least it didn’t disappoint us). It is a fun movie that’s perfect for a family night in. For some extra fun, you could read the subtitles and learn french as a family. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec released on August 13, 2013, so you can own it on BLU-RAY COMBO PACK or DVD today.
