The Most Important Things For A New Mom To Buy Her Baby

RSV

You know what they never tell you about being a new mom? Just how much money having a baby is going to cost you! Sure, everyone will tell you that you’re going to lose sleep and listen to a lot of crying, but people never seem to remember to mention just how much money a baby costs. The expense associated with a baby can be highly intimidating to a new mother, and with very good reason. If you read the parenting magazines, it might seem like you have to be a millionaire to be able to afford everything they claim is a “necessity”. The fact that there is a constant stream of products and adverts directed at new parents doesn’t help matters, either.

So if you’re a new mom who’s getting ready to purchase all of the necessary baby products, you’ve come to the right place! Below, you’ll learn about three of the most important products to buy for your baby. Just buying the most important products for your child will save you a lot of money, as opposed to wasting it on things that you simply don’t need.

Crib

You should spend as much money as your budget can afford on a quality crib. You baby’s crib needs to be made of high quality materials and be built with a high enough attention to detail that it won’t put your baby in danger. Be incredibly wary of hand-me-downs or old cribs as they may not meet safety regulations and/or be in a poor state of repair. Cribs have very strict rules about how far apart the bars can be, the distance between the mattress and edge, and the height of the gate.

Most cribs also do not come with a mattress, so you will also need to put a flame-retardant mattress on your shopping list. Be sure to include linens as well since most cribs will not come with them. Lastly, you may also want to look into purchasing a waterproof pad (known as a sheet saver in some areas) which will keep your baby from ruining their mattress when they inevitably make a mess.

Diapers

Unsurprisingly, diapers are a huge expense. From the time that your baby is born until he or she is potty trained, you should expect to need to change your child’s diaper 50 to 90 times a week depending on their developmental stage. When the baby is first born, plan on 70 to 90 changes per week and expect the number of necessary changes to start tapering off at around six weeks.

Parents also have a choice between cloth or disposable diapers, or even a combination thereof if they feel like it. What’s great about cloth diapers is that they are actually fairly cheap in the long run and are much less taxing on the environment. The only downside is that cloth diapers have a very high initial cost. Disposable diapers, on the other hand, while much cheaper, may initially may end up causing you more in the long run. Disposable diapers also have the benefit of being a one-and-done operation, while cloth diapers will require frequent washing.

Infant Car Seat

If you plan on taking your baby anywhere, an up-to-date car seat/carrier is an essential addition to your shopping list. Make sure that the model you choose is rated for at least 20 pounds and is a rear facing model. Both of these specifications will go a long way in keeping your baby safe should you get in an accident.

Car seats also have the benefit of doubling as a baby carrier, and some models well even transform into a stroller! If you get the right model, you could save yourself quite a bit of money just by being able to avoid purchasing those two items, not to mention the extra convenience!

In conclusion, choosing the right products to buy for your child is a huge challenge, and something that should definitely never be taken lightly. These products are all essential in your baby’s well-being and could literally end up being the difference between life and death in some cases. So above all else, be sure to commit yourself to extra research. The items on this list are just a primer as to what you will need, so don’t be afraid of going to different websites and investing some time in searching for the perfect list of items for your needs.

Be sure to check both Amazon and The Honest Company for baby products and deals or special offers on them. Amazon in particular can offer a huge amount of savings if you happen to come across the right item at the right time. The Honest Company on the other hand provides high-end solutions and has some great options in safe clothing for your child that can help prevent rashes or general skin irritation.
