Writers Workshop: Forgive and forget…I think

Today is the day for the writers workshop over at Mama Kat’s place. I chose the task Forgive and Forget…I think.

To Forgive and Forget is kind of a tough subject. I think it is very important to forgive. As a person you can’t move on if you don’t forgive. I have had to forgive a lot in my lifetime. I have had to forgive being cheated on, being abused, being attacked by friends. I have had to forgive a father that has never really been a part of my life. If I didn’t forgive I would be a miserable hateful person right now because all the stuff I have experienced did make me bitter at one time or another so without forgiving I would never have been able to let go of the bitterness. So it’s very important to forgive for your sake, so that you aren’t filled with bitterness and so that you can be a better person.

As for forgetting, I think there are somethings you should forget and move on, some things are not worth remembering. However there are somethings that you can forgive but it is not easy to forget and some things should not be. There are some things you need to remember so that you don’t have to go through a bad experience twice or three times. Being abused, you should never ever forget that because if you forget it, you may fall back into the abuse cycle again and that could end badly. Being continually treated badly by someone who is a friend is something you should not forget, I am not talking about a little white lie, but being treated disrespectfully and downright being used, if someone does that to you they are not a friend and that should not be forgotten.

So as you can see to me personally forgive and forget don’t always intertwine. You should always forgive, but forgetting sometimes is not always best.

Good post! I agree – you should always forgive – but sometimes…forgetting isn’t always the best thing!

    Or easy at that either.

Boy, oh, boy do I hear ya. I know someone who upsets me so badly that my heart races just to read their name. Isn’t that terrible? Well, I’m trying to move on and not let it affect me on a day to day basis. I’m doing MUCH better…but everyone has a bad day every now and then, right?
Cheers to you, Toni. You inspire me to be the bigger person. :)

Sometimes I choose not to forgive cause it is so hard, but I try to keep going and forget about the pain. Does that count? lol Doesn’t really work, tends to make things fire up at vulnerable times, but it works some of the time.

So true. Forgetting is the hardest part and sometimes it may not be wise to forget so that you don’t allow it to happen again.

    But forgiveness is very important

i’ve always been taught that forgiveness is for ourselves more than for the person we’re forgiving…if we don’t forgive we can become bitter and then we’re hurting ourselves. forgetting…yeah, that’s even harder than forgiving…

I agree I am easy at forgiving but I can never foregt. It’s something my mom always talked about now I see what she means. Especially when it comes to “friends” it’s very hard to just forget. Ya know..but when you forgive you have to allow yourself to forget a little. People change, at least I like to think so!

I’ve even taught my kids that they have to forgive – but they don’t have to forget.

I don’t forget anything. Physically impossible. So am I right there with you on this one.
